About Rose City Gay Freedom Band

In 1990 the Rose City Gay Freedom Band was formed by a small number of committed musicians who shared a passion for making music and gay community pride. RCGFB has grown over the years to encompass the 3 groups that currently make up the organization: Portland Gay Symphonic Band, Rose City Swing, and the Portland Pride Band. RCGFB provides an artistic outlet that is open to all LGBTQI people and supportive friends.

RCGFB has been delighting audiences since 1990, growing over the years and now performing a variety of musical styles ranging from classical pieces to contemporary and popular music. RCGFB produces at least two concerts per year and has performed throughout the Portland area as well as Salem and Seattle. RCGFB has collaborated in concerts with the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, the Portland Lesbian Choir, and the Seattle Rainbow City Band and was a participant in the 2001 and 2007 Oregon Adult Band Festival.

The band is active on a national level as a member of the Lesbian and Gay Bands Association (LGBA) and the Association of Concert Bands.
