Artistic Director, Joseph Accuardi-Gilliam
Joseph Accuardi-Gilliam was born and raised in the Portland area. He studied music at Portland State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music and his Master of Education degrees. After a successful career as a high school band director, Mr. Accuardi-Gilliam is currently serving as an administrator at Hudson’s Bay High School in the Vancouver School District. As an accomplished tuba player, Joseph has performed with the Pacific Crest Wind Symphony, SW Washington Wind Symphony, Oregon Symphonic Band, Newport Symphony Orchestra, Columbia Symphony Orchestra, Portland Festival Symphony and the Oregon Ballet Theatre.
Mr. Accuardi-Gilliam studied instrumental conducting with Dr. William Tuttle at Portland State University; and has attended conducting symposiums with renowned wind band conductors Jerry Junkin, Richard Floyd, Dr. Allen McMurray, and Dr. Rodney Winther. In addition, he has been the Artistic Director of the Portland Gay Symphonic Band for the past ten years, and has recently guest conducted the Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, Joseph earned his National Board Certification in Instrumental Music, and he is currently earning his Doctorate in Education at Lewis & Clark College. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, winter sports and traveling with his family.
