Young Artist Solo Competition

We are proud to announce the winner of our First Annual Young Artist Solo Competition. The competition was open to all 10th-12th grade band students throughout the tri-county area and SW Washington. Sexual orientation or gender identity was not a factor in the selection process.

Introducing Ally Shuell:  a senior band student of Jeremy Dell’s at Madison High School in Portland, Oregon.  Prior to Madison, Ally attended Beaumont Middle School and was a student of Cynthia Plank. Ally’s private alto saxophone teacher is Mary Ellen Grace.   In 2017, Ally performed with the Oregon Ambassadors of Music’s Europe Tour and also performed with the All-Northwest Honor Band through Pacific Lutheran University.

Ally will be performing “Diversion” by Bernard Heiden on April 14th at 7:30 with the Portland Gay Symphonic Band at Kaul Auditorium on the Reed College Campus. She will be awarded a $500 scholarship at the performance.  Tickets are free and donations are gratefully accepted. We look forward to seeing you there!
